A new Panama boom is just getting started
For a decade and a half investing in Panama beyond residency was lost money. Real estate prices stagnated for 15 years after an epic bubble burst. Panama was just a good Plan B and Plan A residency. But Panama is now waking up.
Real estate prices have gone up about 10% in the past year in Panama City, while rents have gone up about 25%. Yields are improving.
Because of this resurgence in interest, The Wandering Investor will host our next live event this September 13th – 16th in Panama City, and you are invited.
People are moving to Panama in droves
It’s one of the few tax havens left that is easy to move to and which offers real urban lifestyle in a developed city, as opposed to a small, remote island in the Caribbean. And now that the Gulf’s safe haven image has been shattered, Panama is playing a bigger role in the internationalization space. Moving to Panama will inevitably become more complicated, but this event comes during the last month before a scheduled increase in the real estate investment threshold for immediate permanent residency.
The more people discover a country, the more the rules tighten, the more the easy pathways disappear, and the more important it becomes to evaluate the opportunity while the current options are still available.
And that is why we are launching this event: To help you evaluate whether Panama is the right fit for you
Already the Qualified Investor Visa, which gives immediate permanent residency, will see its minimum real estate investment requirement increase from $300,000 to $500,000 mid October. For people already considering Panama, this creates a clear opportunity to evaluate real estate on the ground before the investment threshold rises.
The other ways to get residency in Panama, namely through term deposits, smaller real estate investments or just creating a company and hiring oneself, will also inevitably change in the future as demand booms. A few years ago, one could get Permanent Residency in Panama by merely depositing $5,000 in a local bank account. This option is obviously gone, but the current options are still very generous and will likely become ever more onerous over time.
This video explains why we are doing this event.
The event won’t just be about Panama residency and real estate
We’ll also have a workshop day to help you work on your global Plan B strategy. Panama is the focus, but the bigger question is how it fits into your broader structure: where you live, where you bank, where your capital is exposed, where your family has options, and what you would actually do if your home country became less stable, less free, or more expensive.
And of course, expect sociable happy hours, lunches and dinners with a diverse yet like-minded group of people exploring such options all across the world. Our Buenos Aires event back in March was a huge success and on this basis, a community is growing.
This is a big part of why I enjoy hosting these events:
Our Buenos Aires event in March was a big success. It is not just the presentations or the property visits. It is the conversations over dinner, the questions people ask, the new reltionships, and the feeling of being in a room with others who are thinking seriously about internationalizing their lives.
Now is the time to pull the trigger on Panama. I’m a permanent resident of Panama myself, and have encouraged many of my private clients to get Panama Residency. The country is not perfect, but it ticks a lot of boxes.
Residency. Banking. Tax structure. A dollarized economy. Good infrastructure. A proper city. International flights. Real estate that is finally moving again after years of stagnation. And a Plan B jurisdiction that still feels practical.
Please reach out to our events team if you have any questions.
Seats are limited. Early bird seats even more so.

LADISLAS MAURICE: Hello everyone, Ladislas Maurice here, The Wandering Investor. I’m excited to announce our next live event, The Wandering Investor Live Panama 2026, in Panama City, from September 13 to 16. Our recent Buenos Aires event in Argentina was a real success. It reminded us why these live trips work so well.
It’s one thing to read about a market online, or watch videos from home, it’s completely different to be on the ground with people doing this. You get the real perspective, you get the local context, you get the vibe of the place. You meet investors, expats, lawyers, real estate people, bankers, and other attendees who are asking the same questions that you are asking. So we wanted to keep the same idea for Panama.
This will be a high-value educational group event. It’s not a property sales event. Let’s be very clear about this. It’s also not a generic relocation seminar, of which there are many in Panama, and we’re not bundling hotels into the price with a markup, and forcing you to stay at a specific place. You choose your own hotel, you choose your own flights. The goal is very simple, to help you understand Panama properly on the ground with the right people.
Panama is one of the most interesting Plan B jurisdictions in the world right now, even Plan A. It has a territorial tax system, strong banking, a dollarized economy, good infrastructure, accessible residency options, and a lifestyle that can work whether you want to live there full-time, part-time, or just keep as a backup option. At the Wandering Investor, we have a lot of experience with Panama. I’ve obtained permanent residency there myself, and we’ve spent a lot of time on the ground looking at the country from multiple angles, real estate, banking, immigration, lifestyle, and tax structuring.
During the event, we’ll show you the whole picture. We’ll look at real estate in person, we’ll go visit neighborhoods, we’ll discuss what is actually happening in the market, where value may still exist, and importantly, what to avoid. This is not an event where we have a deal with a developer, and we take you to the developer’s different projects, not at all, we’ll be looking both primary market, and most importantly, the secondary market where there is more value to be found. We’ll also be looking at the residency pathways, of which there are many in Panama. They range from creating a company and hiring yourself, to investing a certain amount of money to get immediate permanent residency for you and your whole family.
Why September? Timing. On October 15, the minimum required to get the qualified investor visa through the real estate route will increase from $300,000 to $500,000, and this specific residency gets you immediate permanent residency within 30 days for you and your whole family. So, this will give you one last opportunity to see whether Panama is right for you, and if it is, you can pull the trigger when you’re there, or not as you wish. But this is not only about Panama, Panama is the starting point, but the bigger question is how do you build your ultimate Plan B in an unstable world. This is why we’re adding a full workshop day. We’ll go deeper in the issues that matter right now: geopolitics, passports, residencies, golden visas, banking, jurisdictional risk, managing your wealth, protecting your freedom, and thinking clearly about where you should be positioned for the years ahead. Ultimately, there is no perfect Plan B, and everyone should have their own version of a Plan B, depending on their specific needs.
We’ll have speakers join us on geopolitics and expat life in Panama. We’ll have group meals, discussions, drinks, and amazing dinners every night, and you’ll have plenty of time for questions. And yes, it will be fun. These events are useful, but they’re also really about meeting other people.
So, if you’re thinking seriously about Panama, residency, real estate, lifestyle flexibility, or your broader international Plan B, I invite you to join the Wandering Investor team in Panama in September. Come see it for yourself, meet the right people, ask better questions, and decide whether Panama fits into your life. Request your information from the form below, and the team will revert back to you. Early bird seats are limited, no obligation. We look forward to seeing you there.
