People often talk about the Caribbean for international banking, but if you want international banking that actually works, that offers good service and reasonable fees, look no further than Mauritius.
Why is Mauritius rarely discussed? Because it is an island country between Africa and India, far from where North Americans and most Europeans like to hang out.
Objectively though, Mauritius offer very decent service in some select banks. You can get access to multi-currency accounts in USD, EUR, HKD, AUD, Singapore dollars, Swiss Francs, etc.
In a world that is becoming increasingly multi-polar, having money in a relatively neutral country which is a major offshore hub for Africa and India is far from crazy. Mauritius accounted for 25 per cent of the total FDI which India received between April 2000 and March 2024.
Some banks even accept US people, which is increasingly rare nowadays.
Banking in Mauritius is something I know personally. When I lived in Africa most offshore banks did not want to deal with a tax resident of Ghana. This naturally led me to Mauritius.
I wrote a whole article on the pros and cons of opening an international bank account in Mauritius.
