An increasing number of Europeans and North Americans are moving to Argentina. As happened once before, they are making their way to the Southern Cone with their families in search of greater personal freedom and (especially for Europeans) economic opportunities.
Other people move to Argentina purely for the lifestyle and food.
At The Wandering Investor Live in Buenos Aires, our in-person event last March, around 15% of attendees were Westerners who had made a full time move to Argentina, mostly of the first kind.
This is a growing trend.
Immigration to Argentina isn’t hard. One can move there with as little as $20,000 in the bank. It is easy, on paper, to obtain residency. But as with everything in Argentina, there are quirks.
We discuss this in detail with my Argentina immigration attorney Martin
Can anyone apply?
On paper, yes.
In reality, no. Many Latin American countries impose citizenship-based discrimination. South Asian or Middle Eastern citizens are better off not even trying.
South Asian or Middle Eastern with a Western passport? No problem.
It varies from country to country and from case to case and isn’t in writing anywhere. Nor does anyone want to put it in writing.
In Latin America, a lot of things are left unsaid. What is left unsaid is often as important, if not more important, than what is said explicitly. This is a challenge for many Westerners.
Here is how to obtain residency in Argentina and how to contact Martin.
