Join The Wandering Investor Live in Nairobi, Kenya
Africa is often discussed in extremes. Some people see only poverty and NGOs through narratives pushed by the media. Others promote it as the next great investment boom without understanding the risks or complexities.
“Serious investors understand that there’s always more to the story.”
I’m Ladislas Maurice, The Wandering Investor. For more than a decade, I’ve traveled to over 100 countries, invested my own money in frontier and overlooked markets, and built my life around understanding opportunities firsthand rather than relying on conventional wisdom.
Kenya is a fascinating place to examine this approach. At The Wandering Investor, we often say that capital will have no choice but to look at Africa as the last frontier of demographic growth in the 21st century.
Nairobi is a major regional center for business, finance, technology, and entrepreneurship. There is a young, ambitious generation building companies, attracting capital, and changing the way business is done across East Africa.
At the same time, Kenya has real challenges. Inequality, political risk, currency considerations, infrastructure gaps, and complicated local market dynamics all matter when evaluating an investment. That’s exactly why I want to bring you here.
This isn’t a charity trip, a generic safari vacation, or a property sales seminar.
We will spend time with people who understand the local economy, visit companies, look at actual investments and real estate, meet entrepreneurs, and explore Nairobi as a place to live, invest, and do business.
And we will have a great time doing it. Think excellent restaurants, beautiful neighborhoods, rooftop drinks, wildlife, memorable dinners, and meaningful conversations with other international investors. The goal is simple: to understand the real Kenya, its opportunities and trade-offs, with the right people and firsthand access.
The case
Why Kenya? Why Now?
Kenya occupies a particularly interesting position in East Africa.
Its capital, Nairobi, is a regional hub for technology, financial services, multinational companies, and entrepreneurship. The city offers a combination of established business infrastructure, a growing consumer market, and exposure to the wider East African region.
Yet many international investors know surprisingly little about it.
This event is designed to help you understand five important dimensions of Kenya.
1. Africa as an Emerging Investment Opportunity
Africa’s economic growth story is not uniform. Different countries have different political systems, economic conditions, demographics, currencies, and investment opportunities.
We will explore why Kenya stands out within East Africa, which industries are attracting investment, and what foreign investors need to understand before committing capital.
The focus is on practical opportunities, market fundamentals, and realistic risk assessment.
2. Public Markets, Private Equity & Entrepreneurship
Nairobi has an established stock exchange, a financial services industry, and a growing ecosystem of technology companies, startups, and private investment firms. Nairobi is actually nicknamed the “Silicon Savannah” for this reason.
We plan to meet business leaders, examine publicly listed companies, learn how foreigners can access Kenyan securities, and hear from entrepreneurs building businesses in the region.
We also want to explore private equity and venture capital, including the different ways investors can participate in East Africa’s development.
3. Real Estate: Look, Touch, Feel
What does your money actually buy in Nairobi?
Which neighborhoods are growing? Where is the demand? What kinds of rental yields are realistic? Are there opportunities in existing properties or new developments?
We will dedicate an entire day to examining Nairobi’s real estate market, visiting properties, understanding pricing, and speaking with local professionals about investment structures and ownership rules.
This is about seeing what exists, rather than relying on listings and promotional brochures.
4. Kenya as a Modern Lifestyle Destination
Nairobi has modern shopping centers, international restaurants, residential neighborhoods, nightlife, and a growing professional and entrepreneurial community.
For some people, Kenya may be an interesting part-time base or future lifestyle destination. For others, it may be a place to establish business relationships or gain exposure to a new region.
We want you to experience that lifestyle firsthand, not just hear about it in a conference room.
5. Understand the Real Kenya and How It Fits into Your Wider Plan B and Internationalization Strategy
Diversification decisions require context. Kenya’s history, politics, ethnic and social dynamics, inequality, and geopolitical position all influence how the country operates.
We plan to bring in local academics and experts who can provide a more complete understanding of the country’s development, its strengths, and its challenges.
The goal is to ask difficult questions, understand the realities, and form your own conclusions.

The Program
Here’s What We’ll Be Doing Across Five Days
May 23–27, 2027 | Nairobi
Our program combines expert presentations, company visits, property tours, cultural experiences, excellent meals, and plenty of time to connect with fellow participants.
The following is our preliminary itinerary. Specific speakers, companies, properties, restaurants, and venues will be confirmed closer to the event and may change based on availability.
Sunday, May 23, 2027
Day 1: Arrival & Welcome
Evening: Rooftop Welcome Drinks
Arrive in Nairobi, settle into your accommodation, and join Ladislas, the event team, and your fellow attendees for welcome drinks at a rooftop venue.
This will be our first opportunity to meet the group, reconnect with familiar faces from previous events, make new introductions, and enjoy a taste of Nairobi’s social scene.
There is no formal business programming on Sunday. This is a relaxed opening evening to get comfortable and set the tone for the five days ahead.
Monday, May 24, 2027
Day 2: Kenya’s Economy, Geopolitics & Major Companies
Morning: Opening Remarks and Kenya Economic Overview
We will begin with an introduction from Ladislas and discussions with local economic and
geopolitical experts.
Why does Kenya matter within East Africa? What are the country’s major industries and economic strengths? What should international investors understand about its political environment, currency, demographics, and long-term outlook?
We will examine Kenya’s role as a regional business and financial center, the opportunities
attracting international capital, and the risks that investors should take seriously.
Corporate Headquarters and Business Visits
We intend to visit approximately two significant Kenyan companies or financial institutions, potentially including one of the region’s major publicly listed businesses.
These visits will provide an opportunity to understand how businesses operate in Kenya,
meet local management or industry professionals, and hear directly from locals.
We will stop for a hosted group lunch, with time to discuss the morning’s sessions and get
to know fellow attendees.
The objective is to move beyond investment reports and understand the local business environment through firsthand conversations and exposure.
Evening: Happy Hour and Dinner in Nairobi
We will finish the day with drinks and a group dinner at one of Nairobi’s restaurants.
The evening meals and informal conversations are an important part of our events, providing time to exchange ideas, compare notes, and build relationships with fellow international investors.
Tuesday, May 25, 2027
Day 3: Safari, Kenyan Society & Capital Markets
Morning: Nairobi Safari Experience
One of the remarkable things about Nairobi is its proximity to African wildlife, just outside
the bustle of a major international city.
We will begin the day with an organized safari experience, heading out to look for some of Kenya’s iconic wildlife, potentially including lions, giraffes, zebras, and other animals in their natural environment. This will be an opportunity to enjoy a very different side of Kenya and appreciate what makes Nairobi such an unusual place to live and visit.
Outdoor Lunch and Local Exploration
Following the safari, we’ll enjoy lunch and explore more of the surrounding area.
Depending on the day’s arrangements, we may also visit a nearby development or other
location of interest.
Kenyan Society, History and Development
We will hear from a local academic or expert about Kenya’s history, social structure, ethnic
and cultural dynamics, inequality, and economic development.
Understanding the country beyond the investment numbers is important. These
discussions will help provide context for Kenya’s opportunities and challenges, and what
life and business are really like here.
Kenya’s Stock Market and Capital Markets
We will also explore Kenya’s financial markets, including the Nairobi Securities Exchange,
local brokerage services, publicly traded companies, and the practical process of investing
in Kenyan securities as a foreigner.
We will examine how the market operates, what kinds of businesses are listed, and the
considerations that matter when evaluating local investment opportunities.
Evening: Group Dinner and Drinks
Another evening together in Nairobi, with a hosted group dinner, drinks, and plenty of time to continue conversations from the day’s experiences.
Wednesday, May 26, 2027
Day 4: Nairobi Real Estate & Property Investment
Today is dedicated to understanding Nairobi’s real estate market by getting out and seeing
actual properties.
Morning: Real Estate Market and Legal Overview
We will begin with a briefing on Nairobi’s property market, including current pricing, rental demand, investment returns, development trends, and the differences between various residential neighborhoods.
We will also examine foreign ownership rules, purchasing procedures, legal considerations,
and common challenges investors should understand.
Kenya offers a wide range of property types and price points, from relatively affordable apartments to sophisticated new residential developments. We want to understand what different budgets really buy and where opportunities may exist.
Daytime: Property and Neighborhood Visits
We will spend much of the day touring selected properties and residential developments, targeting approximately five to seven viewings, depending on availability and logistics.
The visits may include existing apartments, resale properties, new developments, and properties across different price ranges.
We will look at location, construction quality, asking prices, rental potential, ownership structures, and how the market compares with other international destinations.
The goal is not to pressure anyone into buying property. It is to give attendees practical
exposure to the market so they can form their own opinions.
Group Lunch
We will arrange a group lunch during the day’s property visits, allowing everyone to
compare observations and discuss what we are seeing.
Evening: Happy Hour and Indian Dinner
Nairobi has a diverse restaurant scene, including a long-established Indian culinary tradition. We intend to enjoy drinks and an Indian group dinner as part of the evening’s social program.
Thursday, May 27, 2027
Day 5: Silicon Savannah, Entrepreneurs & The Finale
Our final day will focus on entrepreneurship, private investment, international diversification, and the future of African business.
Morning: Karen and the Giraffe Centre
We intend to begin with breakfast and activities around the Karen area, including a visit to Nairobi’s Giraffe Centre. This will be an opportunity to experience another side of the city, its leafy residential surroundings, and one of its best-known wildlife attractions. Afterwards we’ll gather together for a group lunch to take in the day.
African Citizenship and International Diversification
As part of the wider internationalization discussion, we will explore African citizenship by investment opportunities and how different options may fit within a wider Plan B strategy.
Afternoon: Entrepreneurs, Venture Capital and Private Equity
Nairobi is frequently called the Silicon Savannah, reflecting its growing role as a center for technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
We will meet and hear from local entrepreneurs, investors, and business professionals to understand what is being built in Kenya and across East Africa. Topics will include private equity, venture capital, technology businesses, entrepreneurship, and the opportunities and challenges facing companies seeking to grow in the region.
We want to learn how local businesses are financed, how they operate, and where international investors may find opportunities worth researching further.
Closing Discussions and Farewell
We will conclude the main event with closing remarks, final questions, and a chance to reflect on what we have learned throughout the week. A farewell gathering and drinks are intended as part of the closing program. For those who want to continue exploring Nairobi’s nightlife, there may be additional opportunities to do so independently after the organized event. What a great week!

Great Food, Drinks & Company: A Core Part of The Wandering Investor Live
One of the best parts of our previous The Wandering Investor Live events has been the time spent together outside formal sessions. The dinners, drinks, conversations, and friendships often become just as valuable as the presentations and site visits.
Kenya will be no different. We’re planning a varied dining and social program featuring rooftop venues, steak dinners, Kenyan cuisine, Indian food, outdoor lunches, and some of Nairobi’s most interesting restaurants.
Some experiences will be polished and professional. Others will be more unusual, local, and memorable. We want you to experience Nairobi as a city with a sophisticated social scene, excellent hospitality, and an exciting mix of African and international influences.
These group meals and organized social experiences are part of the event, giving you plenty of opportunities to talk with Ladislas, local guests, and fellow attendees without the formal structure of a conference room.
Experience Africa Firsthand
Why Join Us on the Ground?
You can read investment reports, watch videos, and research Kenya from your home country. But that only gets you so far.
You can’t understand a neighborhood without walking through it. You can’t properly assess a property from promotional photos. And you can’t form an informed opinion about a business environment solely from statistics.
The advantage of this event is the combination of access, context, and firsthand experience.
You’ll hear different perspectives from people familiar with the market, see properties and businesses for yourself, and have time to ask the questions that matter to you. Just as importantly, you’ll be surrounded by other internationally minded people who are thinking about similar opportunities.
Previous The Wandering Investor Live events in Buenos Aires and Panama demonstrated how valuable these group experiences can be. Interesting conversations continue over dinner, contacts are exchanged, and participants develop relationships beyond the trip itself.
We will bring that same energy to Nairobi.
Outcomes
What Will You Take Away From Kenya?
You will have a clearer understanding of several important questions:
You don’t need to arrive with a specific investment in mind. The purpose is to leave with a stronger understanding of the country, better information, useful introductions, and the ability to make your own decisions.
Practicalities
Event Venue, Logistics, Location & Security
Our main conference venue and hotel are still being finalized. We expect the conference venue to be in or around Westlands, one of Nairobi’s main business, hospitality, and residential areas.
We’ll share the confirmed venue and convenient accommodation recommendations before the event. Group transportation will be organized for scheduled off-site visits and activities. We will also have security support as part of our event operations to ensure an easy flow for all our activities.
Attendees will receive clear meeting instructions, schedules, and a communication channel for event updates and coordination throughout the week. Our goal is to make the practical side of the event as smooth and well-organized as possible so participants can focus on the content, experiences, and networking.

A Final Word From Ladislas
“Kenya is exactly the kind of market I believe deserves a closer look.”
One of the things I enjoy most about traveling and investing internationally is finding places that challenge my assumptions. Kenya is exactly the kind of market I believe deserves a closer look. It’s a place I’ve become quite passionate about and am excited to share with you.

I want this event to give you a fuller understanding of the country, beyond the usual narratives. We’ll learn from local experts, meet businesspeople, visit properties, explore Nairobi, and enjoy some excellent food and drinks along the way.

Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Why Isn't Accommodation Included?
We believe you should have the freedom to choose how and where you stay. Some attendees prefer luxury hotels, others prefer international hotel brands, serviced apartments, or Airbnb. Some may want to arrive early, extend their stay, or use hotel loyalty points.
Rather than force everyone into a single hotel or include accommodation at a markup, we prefer to focus on delivering excellent content, access, meals, and experiences. Our main conference venue will be located in or around the Westlands area of Nairobi, and we will provide accommodation recommendations once the location is confirmed.
You can choose what works best for your preferences and budget.
Is Transportation Included?
Yes. Organized group transportation for scheduled off-site event activities is included.
Airport transfers, independent travel, and transportation outside the day program back to your accommodation of choice are not included. Uber is widely available in Nairobi.
What About Safety and Security?
Professional security support will accompany organized group activities, and we will coordinate transportation, meeting points, venue arrivals, and departures.
As with travel to any major city, guests should still exercise normal personal precautions and remain responsible for their own activities outside the organized program.
Do I Need Experience Investing in Africa?
No. The event is suitable for experienced frontier-market investors as well as people who are exploring Africa for the first time.
We will cover economic fundamentals, real estate, financial markets, local business conditions, and practical aspects of investing. The objective is education, exposure, and understanding rather than requiring you to make an investment.
Will We Be Expected to Buy Property or Invest?
Absolutely not. This is an investment research and lifestyle experience, not a property sales tour.
There may be opportunities to follow up with local companies, developers, brokers, or other professionals after the event, but any investment decision is entirely your own.
How Do I Request a Ticket?
Complete the invitation request form with your contact information and any questions you may have. Our team will follow up with registration details and information on securing your ticket.
Submitting an inquiry does not obligate you to purchase a ticket.
